What is Neurofeedback Training?

Neurofeedback training is an effective alternative to deal with a variety of symptoms and to improve brain functioning without the side effects of medication.
Sessions consist of reclining in a comfortable chair while listening and watching specially engineered audio and visuals.

Benefits of Neurofeedback Training

  • Improves:
Quality of Sleep, Concentration/Focus and Physical/Sports Performance.
  • Increases:
Mental Clarity, Ability to Organize Information, Capacity to Handle Stress and Overall Feeling of Well-Being.
  • Decreases:
      Impulsivity, Mental Chatter, and Anxiety/Stress.

Neurofeedback Training helps to reduce or eliminate the underlying causes of many chronic conditions:
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Anxiety
  • Bi-Polar
  • Chronic Pain
  • Depression
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Migraine Headaches
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Insomnia
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

A growing number of children, teens and adults seek out neurotherapy to eliminate the underlying causes of many distressing symptoms. Athletes, business professionals, students and musicians also experience enhanced performance through neurofeedback training.

The brain must be able to move quickly and easily between all states, including hyper-focus, excitement and relaxation. When the brain is stuck in unhealthy patterns of activity it loses its ability to move easily between states or to maintain a state when required. Self-regulation is the ability to appropriately move between brain states in response to internal and external factors. When you need to focus you won’t be distracted, but when you need to stop thinking, you can do that as well.

Human brain activity produces electromagnetic energy called brainwaves. During a 30 minute session your brain waves are recorded through two tiny EEG sensors placed on your scalp and ears. The electroencephalograph (EEG) is a graphical representation of your brain activities.

A Training SessionThe actual training session consists of reclining in a comfortable chair, watching a never repeating visual image and listening to selected music. The audio and visual feedback is specifically engineered to inform the brain of unproductive brain patterns by creating brief interruptions in the music and visual display.

These interruptions signal the brain to make adjustments to restart the music, enabling the central nervous system to return to its own natural healthy rhythms from various states of turbulence and inefficiency. As the brain recovers from stressful patterns it is further trained to stay in a productive zone. Just like riding a bike, this learning stays with you and brings stability into your daily life.

How Neurofeedback Training Works The basic unit of communication in the nervous system is the neuron. It can be detected from the brain and various muscle systems throughout the body. Measurements are recorded in micro volts (amplitude) and cycles per second (frequency). Brain waves are formed by a dual action, a push - pull process which creates EEG rhythmic activity. Two sensors placed on the head can pick up a portion of this rhythmic activity.

Through Operant Conditioning, (interruption of the music) it gives the brain the opportunity to gradually control unconscious or involuntary physiological processes. Thus, when the micro volts of the brain are surging inappropriately or in a state of instability, the music is interrupted. The brain instantly interprets this as a signal to diminish its present state of turbulence and returns to homeostasis. As this process is repeated over time, the CNS (central nervous system) stabilizes.

Neurofeedback training often reduces or eliminates the need for psychotropic medications as you begin to self-regulate your own EEG patterns. Though not a medical treatment for illness, many people have experienced relief from physical, mental and emotional symptoms.
